Now owned by a subsidiary of Goldman-Sachs, Stratosphere Las Vegas was originally
Bob Stupak's Vegas World.
Vegas World was remodeled in 1996 and the 1,149 foot
tall tower was built before reopening as the Stratosphere.
This was perhaps the first
time a Las Vegas strip resort constructed its own original theme.
Rather than using pirates or
ancient Egypt or the tropics or New York City etc. the Stratosphere tower is itself the
theme of the Stratosphere.
